PE and Sports Premium Funding

The Government now provides substantial funding for primary school sport and physical education. This funding is being jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport, and will see money going directly to primary school headteachers to spend on improving the quality of sport and PE for all children.

At Newport Infants this figure will be £8000 plus a further £5 for every Key Stage One child.  The sport funding can only be spent on sport and PE provision in schools.

Purpose of funding

Schools will have to spend the sport funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they will have the freedom to choose how they do this.  At Newport Infants we recognise the contribution of PE to the health and well-being of young children. In addition, we believe that an innovative and varied PE curriculum has a positive influence on the concentration, attitude and academic achievement of all children.

How will we be spending the Sports Funding?

- To join TWSSP in order to access CPD, competitions and network meetings for PE subject leaders.

- To buy in specialist teachers to work alongside staff to develop knowledge and confidence.

- To introduce new sporting activities that are accessible to all (archery, new age curling).

- To replace and extend the range of small PE equipment that we have available for the children to use.

- To buy in a published scheme to support the teaching of dance.

The governors and staff agree that the money must be used so that ALL children benefit regardless of their sporting ability. It is important this funding opportunity is used appropriately so that when it ends, we have a legacy that can continue for future years.
