Meet the Governors

  Chris Pierce - Headteacher
  Headteacher Governor appointed by Governors

I have been a teacher at Newport Infant School for over 14 years and I am delighted to have been appointed as Headteacher in 2016, having been Deputy Head for seven years. During my career I have been a class teacher in several schools and SENDCO. I have also been seconded to deliver training to Initial Teacher Training Students and worked for the music advisory service. I currently work with the Severn Teaching School Alliance as one of the lead schools and have a role as QA Lead for the Initial Teacher Training programme that they provide.

I have lived in Newport for over 20 years and it is very much my home. My three children have grown up in the town, attending the local schools. I love music and going to shows and enjoy keeping fit and walking.

I am passionate about the quality of learning and care at Newport Infants and feel privileged to work with the wonderful pupils, staff, governors and parents who all work so hard to make themselves and our school the best that it can be.

I joined the Governing Body in 2015, though I have previously been a Governor (1999-2003). I am the School Administrator. I worked in an education environment prior to my appointment in 1998, and I hope to bring my many years of experience in an education setting to the Governing Body.

My main role is to support the teaching staff in delivering an exciting curriculum and to provide the best environment for our pupils to develop and learn. My daughter was a pupil here way back in 2000. She is currently at University and even now refers back to the time she was here and the many happy memories she has - a true testament to our wonderful school.

  Parent Governor appointed by Parents
Term of Office End Date: 2022

I moved to Newport just over two years ago when my middle daughter was due to start school.

I am married with 3 children.  I am a full time parent after giving up work whilst pregnant with my youngest.  I have just finished a college where I have retrained to prepare for returning to work.  I decided to become a governor as a way of giving back to the community and supporting the school in the fabulous job they do and to insure that it continues to do so.  I am also currently chair of the PTA so seem to be spending an increased time in school.

  Jackie Lewis
Local Authority Governor appointed by Governors

I have worked in education in Telford and Shropshire for over 40 years, coming, fresh from college to the, ‘New Town.’ I began as a teacher in a brand new primary school and became Special Needs Coordinator, leading on to eventually becoming a Senior Learning Support Advisory Teacher for Telford and Wrekin Council, a role that involved assessing special needs of pupils and training teachers, HLTA’s and teaching assistants in supporting them in schools across the borough and in all areas of Shropshire.

I have undertaken and published educational research in various aspects of Special Educational Needs and disabilities locally, nationally and internationally and served on the Governing Body of a local special school both as Parent, then Local Authority governor for many years.

I moved to Newport from Much Wenlock in 2017 and was delighted to be invited to join the Governing Body at this, my local school, and I look forward to working with my governor colleagues, the parents, staff and children at Newport Infants.

I am a co-opted Governor at Newport Infant School and am honoured and excited to be working with such a hardworking team of staff and Governors. I have lived and worked in Telford all my life. I have a background in education and particularly in Special Educational Needs and Disabilities in mainstream schools. I was a primary school teacher for 34 years and held a number of senior leadership positions including Acting Head Teacher of two local schools. Currently I am a Governor at another Telford School.

I have enthusiasm and commitment to ensuring our children have an education fit for the 21st Century.

  Parent Governor appointed by Parents

I grew up in Kent and after getting married, I lived in Germany for three years before moving to Newport in 2013 with my husband and daughter. My daughter started Newport Infants in September 2017.

My professional background is within Health and Safety, which I am passionate about. I previously worked at a power station and before that a container port. It is thought to be a “spoil people’s fun” job, but it really isn’t. I was lucky enough to do some location work for the BBC, which was great fun.

In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family. I love all types of music, cooking, and going to the theatre, especially musical theatre. I am a rugby fan (hubby used to play).

I was elected as Parent Governor and I am excited about my role. As a parent I welcome the opportunity to support the school to provide the best for our children.

Teaching Governor appointed by Staff members
Term of Office End Date: 1st March 2021

I began teaching at Newport Infants in September 2015 and am currently working in Year 1. I was thrilled to be offered the post as I had a strong affiliation with the school after attending as a pupil myself and later returning to complete some work experience in 2013. Prior to teaching I studied Music at Bangor University where, alongside my studies, I enjoyed being involved in a number of student societies. After finishing my degree I returned to Newport and completed my PGCE through the Severn Teaching Alliance which is based in Telford.

I am a new member of the Governing Body and am looking forward to supporting the school in this new role.

Our governors bring a wide range of expertise, skills and experience to benefit the pupils and direct the school in a positive and effective way.

We attend many activities during the school year including sports day, school trips, completing learning walks and talking to staff, children and parents.

At Newport Infant School we have 3 main committees as detailed below:
