I completed 30 years police service and on retirement I became an advisor on training and development in various countries; finally working in Macedonia for three years until 2009.

When I became fully retired I wanted to keep active so became a school Governor at the Infants. As a Governor I have been privileged to meet many fabulous people as well as work in a completely different environment.

Time has passed very quickly and now I am Chair of the Governing Body and taking on many new challenges.

In September 2013 my daughter who has additional needs started Newport Infant School. During her time at school, the support staff and teachers have helped her immensely which inspired me to join the Governing Body as a way of giving something back to the school.

My background is mainly in admin and IT but I also have 5 years’ school experience. I have worked within Infant, Primary and Secondary settings where my role covered attendance, finance, payroll, student support administration and I also worked closely with the SENCO in an administrative capacity.

I am highly committed to the continued success of the school and welfare of its pupils and feel honoured to be a part of its journey.

I have been a teacher at Newport Infant School for over 14 years and I am delighted to have been appointed as Headteacher in 2016, having been Deputy Head for seven years. During my career I have been a class teacher in several schools and SENDCO. I have also been seconded to deliver training to Initial Teacher Training Students and worked for the music advisory service. I currently work with the Severn Teaching School Alliance as one of the lead schools and have a role as QA Lead for the Initial Teacher Training programme that they provide.

I have lived in Newport for over 20 years and it is very much my home. My three children have grown up in the town, attending the local schools. I love music and going to shows and enjoy keeping fit and walking.

I am passionate about the quality of learning and care at Newport Infants and feel privileged to work with the wonderful pupils, staff, governors and parents who all work so hard to make themselves and our school the best that it can be.

I began teaching at Newport Infants in September 2015 and am currently working in Year 2. I was thrilled to be offered the post as I had a strong affiliation with the school after attending as a pupil myself and later returning to complete some work experience in 2013. Prior to teaching I studied Music at Bangor University where, alongside my studies, I enjoyed being involved in a number of student societies. After finishing my degree I returned to Newport and completed my PGCE through the Severn Teaching Alliance which is based in Telford.

I am a new member of the Governing Body and am looking forward to supporting the school in this new role.

I grew up in Kent and after getting married, I lived in Germany for three years before moving to Newport in 2013 with my husband and daughter. My daughter started Newport Infants in September 2017.

My professional background is within Health and Safety, which I am passionate about. I previously worked at a power station and before that a container port. It is thought to be a “spoil people’s fun” job, but it really isn’t. I was lucky enough to do some location work for the BBC, which was great fun.

In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family. I love all types of music, cooking, and going to the theatre, especially musical theatre. I am a rugby fan (hubby used to play).

I was elected as Parent Governor and I am looking forward to my role. As a parent I welcome the opportunity to support the school to provide the best for our children.

I joined the Governing Body in 2015, though I have previously been a Governor (1999-2003). I am the School Administrator. I worked in an education environment prior to my appointment in 1998, and I hope to bring my many years of experience in an education setting to the Governing Body.

My main role is to support the teaching staff in delivering an exciting curriculum and to provide the best environment for our pupils to develop and learn. My daughter was a pupil here way back in 2000. She is currently at University and even now refers back to the time she was here and the many happy memories she has - a true testament to our wonderful school.

Having been born and raised in South Wales and graduating from the University of Wales, Swansea in 1994 with a degree in Physics and Medical Physics I began a teaching career with a subject specialism of Science in 1995.

I quickly gained promotion and have undertaken a number of positions including head of department, head of year, assistant head teacher and deputy head teacher. I am currently Associate Head Teacher at The Phoenix Collegiate School in West Bromwich, a very large secondary school with over 1500 pupils.

I moved to Newport with my family at the end of 2013 and my son, Dylan, attended Newport Infants in the years 2013 - 2016. Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my family and friends.  Being Welsh my main passion is rugby and having played for many years I now support Dylan on weekends as he develops his own love for the game.

With Dylan having settled in and performed so well at Newport Infants I wish to give something back to the school that hopefully the 20+ years in Education have given me and I look forward in supporting the school as a co-opted governor over the coming years.

I am a co-opted Governor at Newport Infant School and am honoured and excited to be working with such a hardworking team of staff and Governors. I have lived and worked in Telford all my life. I have a background in education and particularly in Special Educational Needs and Disabilities in mainstream schools. I was a primary school teacher for 34 years and held a number of senior leadership positions including Acting Head Teacher of two local schools. Currently I am a Governor at another Telford School.

I have enthusiasm and commitment to ensuring our children have an education fit for the 21st Century.

Our governors bring a wide range of expertise, skills and experience to benefit the pupils and direct the school in a positive and effective way.

At Newport Infant School we have 3 main committees as detailed below:
